I love summer in Chicago—the sun is out and everyone wants to go out for a great dinner or enjoy a city view with delicious rooftop cocktails (plus, it's my birthday!). Summer is easy and breezy, and it's so much fun to enjoy your fashion!
For summer, I love an outfit like the Tanisi skirt with the Varada cotton top. Tanisi is the perfect pencil length with stretch, so you don't need to worry about it when sitting down or getting in and out of Ubers. Dressing for an air-conditioned office in scorching temperatures can be quite challenging—how do you keep from sweating to death on your commute or freezing to death in your office, all while remaining appropriate to your dress code? So I pair this skirt with Varada because it is made out of our lightweight, washable cotton. Then, in AC, you can simply throw on a cardigan or light jacket like the Vamika 2, and you're all set. This outfit also goes easily from the office to after-work drinks, or you can dress it up for parties. The Iris Chennai print screams, "Summer is here!"
Another fantastic outfit for a summer party or wedding is theRoss 2 top with theGabi skirt. These pieces are available in multiple colors, so you can choose a monochromatic look or mix it up. I'm partial to summery marigold, though!
I can't tell you how much I hear the words, "I have too much black." Have fun ladies—summer is the perfect time of year when you can wear bright colors and prints! If you think prints can be too much, I suggest wearing a print on top and solid color on the bottom, or vice-versa, like the Tanisi-Varada look.
My top tip for clients is to shop for items that are comfortable but look great—and therefore make you look and feel great. What you wear is how you present yourself to the world, so make sure it makes you feel comfortable and confident!
OULA, Summer Intern
I am a senior at Columbia College Chicago, studying Fashion Product Development and minoring in Fashion Business and Marketing. I like that M2057 is a small business and I knew that the work would be very personable. I also wanted to be an intern because I love Maria Pinto’s designs—her work is sophisticated yet elegant, and that’s exactly what I like to design. I hope to graduate and work as a designer in modest fashion.
I’ve learned that running a small business requires a lot of teamwork and I like that here, everyone helps everyone with their work. You always have someone to support you. It’s a very personable company and you really get to learn the inner workings of the business, as well as the fashion field.
As a modest women I find it difficult to find garments that fit my sense of style, and that’s why I love Maria's designs. Her pieces are exactly what I’m looking for. I loved the vibrancy of the Trishna tunic and the comfort of the Jacinta leggings. They pair really well together and make me feel very comfortable, yet elegant.
