Spotlight Series Issue 20 | Cass and Linda Heckman

Another edition of M2057’s Spotlight Series: In Her Own Words is here. Each month, we feature the dynamic, stylish, and powerful women who inspire us daily.

Meet this month’s spotlight: mother and daughter duo, Cass and Linda Heckman.

Let's dive in as they reflect on their own style, and their admiration for each other's point of view.

Personal Style

How would you describe your personal style?

I believe that less is more, and I aim for a generally minimalist aesthetic, but with some unique detail. I'm a firm believer in investing in quality over quantity, and I prefer pieces that will never go out of style. I look for quality pieces that stand the test of time and can be worn in a myriad of ways.  Whether I'm dressing up for a special occasion or running errands on the weekend, I try to select outfits that make me feel confident and inspired.

How are you dressing right now?

I would estimate that my closet is about 70% M2057 right now. My non-M2057 pieces tend to be true to my personal style: classic, well-tailored, with a touch of attitude. Think a blue linen blazer with a light blue polka dot lining. A black leather clutch with spiked edges. Or a simple pair of ballet flats in a cherry red patent leather.

How does your work style differ from your more casual or going-out style?

I used to have two separate wardrobes for work and life; there was absolutely no commingling. Once I discovered Maria Pinto, that completely changed for me. I was able to find clothes that I would be confident wearing to work, but also works with my lifestyle outside of work.

Who are some of your style or fashion icons?

My mother, of course!

What are some of your favorite features of the M2057 collection?

The collection is created by a woman with all women in mind. We want pockets. We want easy washing instructions. And we want material that is comfortable and can move with us. - Cass

Noticeable in every collection of Maria's, is her eye for detail and the beautiful workmanship combined with her recognizable style in a washable fabric. Her seams are a work of art! The draping of each piece of clothing is beautiful, the more you examine the piece the more you see the flawless perfection in its construction. - Linda

Work and Lifestyle

What was your path to getting where you are today?

I wish I could say that I had a plan and executed on it, but I experienced a lot of ups and downs throughout my career. I had majored in Finance but took a few career dead ends before finding a place for myself in compliance. I also sometimes found myself at firms that weren’t the right fit, but I’ve always tried to press pause and force myself to reassess. The pauses have helped me realign and find a path that worked best for me at the time, whether that was a new field, firm, or position.

What brings you joy?

Spending time with my family and friends – especially my mother. I spend almost every Saturday with her. She’s one of my favorite people and seeing her on Saturdays gives me something to look forward to all week.

Quick Takes

How do you take care of yourself?

I try to remember to be kind to myself. There are days when I’m too tired to cook or clean – or frankly, I just don’t feel like it. I would rather order a pizza and read a book. So, I remind myself that it’s ok, I’m allowed to be lazy sometimes. The world won’t stop if I put off laundry until tomorrow or eat a frozen pizza for dinner.

If I’m really having a tough day, my husband will subtly suggest that I give my mom a call: “Have you spoken to your mom today? Maybe you should give her a quick call…” After chatting with my mom, I’ll always hang up in a better mood.

Best piece of advice you've ever received?

Embrace change. Change is going to happen whether you want it to or not. And it happens all throughout your life. You might as well be open to it and look for the opportunity in it.

What wisdom would you tell your younger self?

Life is a journey, and every experience can teach you something valuable. Keep an open mind, stay curious, and enjoy the ride!
